Scrollwork Copper Backsplash — Hand-Hammered Ornate Classical Wall Art
The scroll is the oldest decorative motif in Western architecture. The Ionic volute — the spiral at the top of the Ionic column capital — appears in Greek temples from the 6th century BC. The acanthus scroll appears in the Corinthian capital, in Roman friezes, in Byzantine mosaics, in Gothic stone carving, in Renaissance plasterwork, in Baroque furniture, in Georgian silverware, in Victorian cast iron. The scroll has never gone out of style because it has never belonged to any single style. It belongs to all of them.
A hand-hammered copper backsplash and wall art piece of ornate scrollwork — the classical scroll motif rendered in dimensional copper relief, the curves and spirals and volutes built up from a flat copper sheet one hammer stroke at a time by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. The scroll is the composition: the curves flowing into each other with the ease of a motif that has been refined over 2,500 years of continuous use. Available in all 15 finishes. Over 10,000 pieces made.
Scrollwork is the foundational decorative vocabulary of Western architecture and the applied arts. The Ionic volute, the acanthus scroll, the Baroque cartouche, the Rococo rocaille, the Art Nouveau whiplash curve — every great decorative tradition in the Western world has its own version of the scroll, and every version is immediately recognizable as belonging to the same ancient family of forms. In copper relief, scrollwork is the most formally elegant and most architecturally specific design in the Natuross catalog — the one that belongs in a formal dining room, a library, a fireplace surround, a high-end kitchen with classical architectural detailing, or any space where the aesthetic is built around permanence and refinement.
What Can You Order With This Design?
① Single backsplash or wall art piece — select your size above
The scrollwork in your exact size and finish. Choose from the sizes listed, or reach out with your measurements — we’ll add your size and notify you when it’s ready. Note your finish preference at checkout — we’ll send a digital preview before production begins.
② Full kitchen in scrollwork — the formal kitchen
Scrollwork above the stove, the motif extending across the sink wall and window wall — all in the same finish, the classical pattern flowing continuously from wall to wall. The kitchen that reads as a formal, architecturally considered space rather than an assembled one. Send us straight-on photos of your kitchen walls and we’ll design the full set, render it into your space, and quote the complete project. No commitment required.
③ Fireplace surround, library wall, or formal dining room
Scrollwork at full wall or fireplace scale — the classical motif framing the fireplace opening, filling the library wall, or spanning the dining room behind the table. The architectural detail that makes a room feel designed rather than decorated. Contact us with your dimensions for an exact quote.
④ Custom scrollwork composition — reach out
A specific scrollwork tradition — Ionic, Corinthian, Baroque, Rococo, Art Nouveau, Islamic arabesque — rendered with historical accuracy, scrollwork incorporating a central medallion or cartouche, scrollwork with your family crest or monogram at the center, scrollwork as a border or frame for another design, scrollwork adapted to a specific architectural period or interior style. Same process, completely custom. Just reach out.

Complete the Look
A formal kitchen in scrollwork. The classical motif above the stove, extending across every wall, the range hood clad in the same finish with the scrollwork framing the hood on all sides — the kitchen that looks like it belongs in a Georgian townhouse or a Parisian apartment.
A fireplace surround in matching copper. The scrollwork framing the fireplace opening — the classical motif at the most architecturally prominent focal point in the room. The detail that makes the fireplace look like it was designed by an architect rather than selected from a catalog.
A library or study wall. Scrollwork at full wall scale behind the bookshelves — the classical pattern visible between the spines, the copper warm against the leather and cloth of the books. The room that feels like it has always been there.
A family crest or monogram panel. Your family crest or initials at the center of a scrollwork composition — the most formally heraldic and most permanently identifying piece in the catalog. In any finish, at any size.
Thinking about more than one piece? Reach out before ordering. We design full projects together and the pricing reflects it.

Custom Sizes & Layouts
Custom Sizes & Layouts
Every backsplash is made specifically for your kitchen.
Order a single backsplash behind the stove, matching side panels beneath your cabinets, or a complete kitchen backsplash designed for your full layout.
Outlets, switches, pot fillers, windows, vents, and other cutouts can usually be incorporated into the design.
If your exact size is not listed, simply send us your approximate width × height after ordering. We usually add custom sizes quickly.
For the best fit, measure the finished opening and subtract approximately ⅛ inch from each side. This small installation allowance is normally unnoticeable and helps create an easier installation and professional result.
