The porcupine moves in natural side profile across the forest floor, one front paw slightly raised. Hundreds of individually rendered quills radiate outward from the body — each one raised separately from the copper surface, creating a texture unlike anything else in this catalog. The layered quills form a dramatic silhouette that catches and scatters light as it moves across the panel. Pine branches frame the composition from both sides. Pine cones and fallen needles rest along the ground beneath the animal. Small grasses and woodland vegetation fill the scene without crowding it.
