Hunting Dogs & Pheasants Copper Backsplash — Hand-Hammered Upland Hunting Wall Art
The bird dog and the pheasant are the defining subjects of American upland hunting art. Winslow Homer painted bird dogs in the field. Currier & Ives printed hunting scenes with pointers and setters for a century. The sporting art tradition of England — George Stubbs, John Ferneley, Ben Marshall — put the hunting dog at the center of the most prestigious genre of painting in the country. The bird dog working a field is one of the most beautiful things that happens in the natural world: the dog and the bird and the grass and the sky, all in motion at once.
A hand-hammered copper backsplash and wall art piece of two hunting dogs flushing pheasants from tall grass — the dogs at full extension in the field, the pheasants bursting into the air with wings spread, the tall grass, the tree, and the rolling hills completing the scene — rendered in dimensional copper relief, built up from a flat copper sheet one hammer stroke at a time by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. Every muscle of the dogs, every feather of the pheasants, every blade of grass a separate hammer stroke, thousands of them. Available in all 15 finishes — shown here in Natural Copper and Brown Copper. Over 10,000 pieces made.
The pointer and the Vizsla — the two most elegant and most athletically refined of the upland hunting breeds — are the dogs in this composition. The pointer, developed in England in the 17th century, is the most widely depicted dog in sporting art. The Vizsla, the ancient hunting dog of the Hungarian plains, is one of the oldest pointing breeds in the world, depicted in stone carvings from the 10th century. The ring-necked pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) — native to Asia, introduced to North America in 1881 — is the most widely hunted upland game bird in the United States, with over 10 million harvested annually. The pheasant flush — the moment the bird breaks from cover and the dogs lock on — is the defining moment of the upland hunt, and the defining moment of this composition.

Complete the Look
A hunting lodge kitchen. The dogs and pheasants above the stove, the field continuing across the sink wall and window wall — all in the same finish. The kitchen that feels like the great room of a hunting lodge, wherever it is.
A mudroom or entry hall panel. The hunting scene on the wall of the mudroom — where the boots come off and the dogs come in — the composition that belongs to the space between the field and the house.
A hunting camp or lodge sign. Your camp name or family name hand-hammered in relief, with a dog or pheasant incorporated into the composition. The sign above the door of the place where the season begins.
A dining room feature wall. The hunting scene at full dining room scale — the dogs and pheasants on the wall where every meal after the hunt is eaten. The room that remembers every day in the field.

Custom Sizes & Layouts
Every backsplash is made specifically for your kitchen.
Order a single backsplash behind the stove, matching side panels beneath your cabinets, or a complete kitchen backsplash designed for your full layout.
Outlets, switches, pot fillers, windows, vents, and other cutouts can usually be incorporated into the design.
If your exact size is not listed, simply send us your approximate width × height after ordering. We usually add custom sizes quickly.
For the best fit, measure the finished opening and subtract approximately ⅛ inch from each side. This small installation allowance is normally unnoticeable and helps create an easier installation and professional result.
