Heron Copper Backsplash — Hand-Hammered Wetland Scene Kitchen & Fireplace Wall Art

A great blue heron standing in shallow water, one leg raised, neck curved, completely still — the posture of absolute patience. Lily pads floating at its feet, ripples spreading outward from where it stands. Reeds and grasses rising on the left, cattails clustered on the right, a tree branch crossing the top of the scene with small leaves hanging down. A rectangular frame containing the whole composition. The most complete and most atmospherically specific wetland scene in the catalog — in copper relief, on the wall of any room that deserves it.

A hand-hammered copper backsplash and wall art piece of a great blue heron in a marsh scene in raised relief — the heron centered and tall, facing right, one leg raised in mid-step, the long curved neck detailed, the feathers of the breast and wing rendered individually — the water surface below showing circular ripples around the heron’s feet, lily pads scattered across the foreground — tall grasses and reeds rising from the water’s edge on the left, cattails and grasses clustered on the right — a tree branch extending horizontally across the top of the scene, small leaves hanging down — the background open and smooth behind the bird, giving the heron its full presence in the composition — the whole scene contained within a rectangular border frame — built up from a flat copper sheet one hammer stroke at a time by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. Available in all 15 finishes. Over 10,000 pieces made.

The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) — the largest heron in North America, standing up to 4.5 feet tall with a wingspan of up to 6.6 feet — is the most architecturally elegant and most compositionally vertical wading bird on the continent. The heron’s hunting posture — one leg raised, neck coiled, body perfectly still above the water — is one of the most recognizable and most compositionally complete animal postures in the natural world: the body as a compressed spring, the patience as the technique, the stillness as the action. The heron appears in the decorative arts of every culture that has lived beside water — on the painted silk screens of the Japanese Edo period, on the blue-and-white Delftware tiles of the Dutch Golden Age, on the carved wooden decoys of the American Chesapeake Bay tradition, on the Arts and Crafts pottery of the Rookwood and Grueby kilns, and on the painted furniture of the American Federal period. The marsh scene — the lily pads, the reeds, the cattails, the overhanging branch — is the most complete and most botanically specific wetland composition in the catalog: every element placed with the precision of a Japanese woodblock print, every plant identified and in its correct position in the marsh ecosystem.

Start Your Full Kitchen Project

Most customers who order the heron panel above the stove end up covering the full kitchen — and it’s always better designed as one composition from the start than assembled piece by piece.

You can order a single panel, or send us straight-on photos of your kitchen walls — the stove wall, the sink wall, the window wall — and we’ll design the full heron marsh kitchen around your space: the heron scene centered above the stove, coordinated marsh panels — reeds, lily pads, cattails, water — extending across the sink wall and window wall, all in the same finish, all designed as one continuous wetland composition. Optionally: sink island, cabinet door inserts, above-window panel, range hood cladding, or any other surface you want in copper.

Rough measurements are helpful but not required. Even just photos are enough to start. Ibrahim will create a custom design inspired by the heron panel, place it into your space photos, and send a digital mockup with a rough quote. No commitment required.

Installation & Care

Installation — three methods:

  • Adhesive — stick directly over existing tile, drywall, wood, or stone using any standard construction adhesive. Most popular method. Most customers install in under an hour.
  • Screw mount — for large, heavy, or outdoor panels. Ships with screws and decorative caps included.
  • Hanging wire — for wall art, signs, and removable installations.

For multi-piece panels: install the central piece first, borders second.

Care:

Wipe with a soft damp cloth. For grease or cooking splashes, warm water and mild dish soap. No polishing, waxing, or re-sealing — ever. The finish you receive is the finish it keeps.
