Grapevine & Wine Copper Backsplash — Hand-Hammered Vineyard Kitchen Decor

The grapevine is the oldest cultivated plant in human history. Viticulture — the cultivation of grapes for wine — dates to at least 6,000 BC in the South Caucasus. The Romans planted vines across every province of the empire. The medieval monasteries of Burgundy and the Rhine mapped the great terroirs. The grapevine has been on the walls of kitchens, cellars, and dining rooms for as long as people have been making wine — which is to say, for as long as people have been making art.

A hand-hammered copper backsplash of the complete wine still life — grapevine with heavy clusters of grapes, a wine bottle, wine glasses, and a barrel — the full vocabulary of wine culture rendered in dimensional copper relief, built up from a flat copper sheet one hammer stroke at a time by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. The vine, the fruit, the vessel, and the glass are the composition: the grapevine extending naturally across the full width of the panel, the wine still life elements distributed through the composition with the ease of things that have always belonged together. Available in all 15 finishes. Over 10,000 pieces made.

The grapevine is the most universally beloved and most kitchen-specific decorative motif in the Western tradition — from Roman mosaic floors to Tuscan fresco, from the carved stone capitals of Romanesque churches to the wrought iron gates of Bordeaux châteaux, from the painted tiles of Portuguese azulejos to the pressed tin ceilings of New York wine bars. Every wine culture on earth — French, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Georgian, Californian, Argentine — has put the grapevine on its walls. The reason is simple: the grapevine is the most compositionally generous plant in the decorative arts. Its tendrils fill space naturally. Its clusters anchor the composition. Its leaves create texture without clutter. It is the plant that was born to be on a wall.

What Can You Order With This Design?

① Single backsplash — select your size above
The grapevine and wine still life in your exact size and finish. Choose from the sizes listed, or reach out with your measurements — we’ll add your size and notify you when it’s ready. Note your finish preference at checkout — we’ll send a digital preview before production begins.

② Full kitchen — the vineyard kitchen
The grapevine above the stove, the vine extending across the sink wall and window wall — all in the same finish, designed as one continuous vineyard composition. The kitchen that feels like a Tuscan farmhouse or a Napa Valley wine country home, wherever it is. Send us straight-on photos of your kitchen walls and we’ll design the full set, render it into your space, and quote the complete project. No commitment required.

③ Dining room or wine cellar feature wall
The grapevine and wine still life at full wall scale — the vine spanning the full width of the dining room wall, the grape clusters and wine elements distributed across the composition. The room that announces itself as a place where wine is taken seriously. Contact us with your wall dimensions for an exact quote.

④ Custom vineyard composition — reach out
A specific grape variety — Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sangiovese, Tempranillo — rendered with botanical accuracy, a vineyard landscape with rows of vines and a winery in the background, a wine label or estate name incorporated into the composition, a wine cellar scene with barrels stacked in an arched stone cellar, a harvest scene with grape pickers and baskets — or your family name or winery name worked into the grapevine composition. Same process, completely custom. Just reach out.

Complete the Look

A full vineyard kitchen. The grapevine above the stove, the vine extending across every wall, the range hood clad in the same finish with the vine climbing up the sides — the most complete and most atmospherically immersive vineyard kitchen in the catalog. The kitchen that makes every meal feel like it was cooked in a Tuscan farmhouse.

A range hood in matching finish. The grapevine rising from the backsplash up the hood front and sides — the vine climbing toward the ceiling, the grape clusters framing the hood on either side. The detail that makes the hood look like it was designed as part of the kitchen rather than installed afterward.

A wine cellar or bar wall. The grapevine and wine still life on the wall of the wine cellar, the bar, or the dining room — the composition that belongs to the space where wine is stored, poured, and enjoyed.

A kitchen sign in the same finish. Your family name, your winery name, or a wine quote — hand-hammered in relief, with a grapevine border incorporated into the composition. The piece that makes the kitchen unmistakably yours.

Thinking about more than one piece? Reach out before ordering. We design full projects together and the pricing reflects it.

Installation & Care

Installation — three methods:

  • Adhesive — stick directly over existing tile, drywall, wood, or stone using any standard construction adhesive. Most popular method. Most customers install in under an hour.
  • Screw mount — for large, heavy, or outdoor panels. Ships with screws and decorative caps included.
  • Hanging wire — for wall art, signs, and removable installations.

For multi-piece panels: install the central piece first, borders second.

Care:

Wipe with a soft damp cloth. For grease or cooking splashes, warm water and mild dish soap. No polishing, waxing, or re-sealing — ever. The finish you receive is the finish it keeps.
