Fleur-de-Lis Copper Backsplash — Hand-Hammered French & Heritage Kitchen & Fireplace Wall Art
The fleur-de-lis is the most widely recognized heraldic symbol in the Western world — the stylized lily that has been the emblem of the French royal house since the 12th century, the symbol of New Orleans and Louisiana, the badge of the Boy Scouts on every continent, and the most specifically French decorative element in the catalog. In copper relief, framed by ornate scrollwork, it is the most formally complete and most heraldically specific decorative backsplash in the catalog.
A hand-hammered copper backsplash and wall art piece of a fleur-de-lis crest with ornate scroll details in raised relief — the fleur-de-lis centered in the composition, the three petals detailed, the scroll border completing the heraldic frame — built up from a flat copper sheet one hammer stroke at a time by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. The fleur-de-lis, the scrollwork, and the copper field are the composition: the royal emblem as the subject, the ornamental tradition as the frame, the warm metal as the ground that holds both. Available in all 15 finishes. Over 10,000 pieces made.
The fleur-de-lis — the stylized lily, from the Old French flor de lis (flower of the lily) — has been the emblem of the French royal house since at least the reign of Louis VII (1137–1180), who adopted it as the symbol of the Capetian dynasty. The fleur-de-lis appears on the royal arms of France (Azure, semé of fleurs-de-lis Or — blue field strewn with gold lilies), on the arms of England (the three fleurs-de-lis of the English claim to the French throne, retained on the Royal Arms of England until 1801), on the flag and seal of the city of New Orleans (founded by the French in 1718), on the flag of the province of Quebec, on the flag of the city of Florence (Firenze), and on the badge of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (founded by Robert Baden-Powell, 1907). The fleur-de-lis in the decorative arts tradition appears on the carved stone capitals of the Gothic cathedral, on the ironwork of the French Baroque garden, on the painted furniture of the Louisiana Creole tradition, and on the tilework of the New Orleans French Quarter. In copper, the fleur-de-lis and the scroll border are the most formally complete and most cross-culturally resonant heraldic backsplash in the catalog.

Installation & Care
Installation & Care
Installation — three methods:
- Adhesive — stick directly over existing tile, drywall, wood, or stone using any standard construction adhesive. Most popular method. Most customers install in under an hour.
- Screw mount — for large, heavy, or outdoor panels. Ships with screws and decorative caps included.
- Hanging wire — for wall art, signs, and removable installations.
For multi-piece panels: install the central piece first, borders second.
Care:
Wipe with a soft damp cloth. For grease or cooking splashes, warm water and mild dish soap. No polishing, waxing, or re-sealing — ever. The finish you receive is the finish it keeps.
