Copper Cabinet Door Inserts — Hand-Hammered Kitchen & Furniture Panel Inserts

The cabinet door insert is the most architecturally integrated copper detail in the kitchen — the panel that fits into the existing frame of the cabinet door, replacing the glass or the flat panel with hand-hammered copper. Not applied to the surface, not hung on the wall — set into the door itself, flush with the frame, part of the cabinet. The detail that transforms a standard kitchen cabinet into something that could not have been bought at a showroom.

Hand-hammered copper panels designed to fit directly into cabinet doors, drawer fronts, or furniture frames — cut to your exact insert dimensions, mounted on a solid composite backing, sealed with clear lacquer, heat- and splash-resistant — built up from flat copper sheet one hammer stroke at a time by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. Available in all 15 finishes, with any design — plain hand-hammered copper, or any embossed motif from the Natuross catalog. Over 10,000 pieces made.

The copper cabinet insert has its roots in the Arts and Crafts furniture tradition of the late 19th and early 20th century — the hammered copper panels inset into the doors of the Gustav Stickley sideboard, the Charles Rennie Mackintosh cabinet, and the Greene & Greene built-in of the American Craftsman home. In the Arts and Crafts tradition, the copper insert was the detail that distinguished the handmade piece from the machine-made piece — the mark of the craftsman’s hand in the material that the machine could not replicate. In the contemporary kitchen, the copper cabinet insert performs the same function: the detail that says this kitchen was designed, not assembled from a catalog.

Design Options

The panels can be made in any design at no extra charge:

  • Plain hand-hammered copper — the hammered texture across the full surface, no embossed motif — the most materially pure and most contemporary copper cabinet insert in the catalog
  • Any embossed design — the sunflower, the lemon branch, the rooster, the grapevine, the floral scroll, the Celtic knot, the Tree of Life, the fleur-de-lis — any design from the Natuross catalog, centered in the insert panel
  • Custom design — your own motif, your family crest, your monogram — reach out and we’ll design it together

Note your design preference at checkout — we’ll send a digital preview before production begins.

Materials

Every Natuross panel is handmade from real 24-gauge copper or brass over a rigid backing, approximately ¼ inch thick overall.

Lightweight, durable, and designed for long-term use in kitchens and other living spaces.

Each panel is sealed with a clear protective finish to help resist moisture, fingerprints, cooking splashes, and everyday wear.

Nearly 10,000 custom copper kitchen backsplashes have been created over many years, with thousands installed behind stoves and ranges across the United States.

Sizing

Every panel is made for a specific space.

Whether you need a single panel behind the stove, matching side panels beneath cabinets, a full backsplash wall, or a unique layout, we build each order to fit your project.

Outlets, switches, pot fillers, vents, windows, and other obstacles can usually be accommodated.

For the best fit, measure the finished opening and subtract approximately ⅛ inch from each side. This small allowance is normally unnoticeable after installation and helps ensure an easier installation and professional result.

If your exact size is not listed, simply send us your measurements or layout and we will add your size.

Design

Choose from one of the largest collections of copper backsplash designs available, including trees, flowers, wildlife, birds, horses, landscapes, symbols, personalized designs, and more.

Every design can be made in any available finish and adapted to your project.

If you cannot find exactly what you want, we can create a completely new design for you.

Most custom size requests are added within minutes. New design requests are typically prepared within a few hours to one business day.

Before production begins, we send a digital preview for approval. Once your panel is completed, we send photos of the finished work before shipping.

Nothing is produced or shipped without your approval.

Installation

Most customers install their panel in under an hour.

Choose from adhesive mount, screw mount, or hanging wire installation.

Panels can be installed over drywall, tile, wood, stone, brick, metal, and most other solid surfaces.

Installation instructions are included.

Cleaning

Cleaning is simple.

Natuross panels are designed specifically for use behind stoves and cooking areas and have been installed in thousands of kitchens over many years.

For normal cleaning, use a soft cloth, warm water, and mild dish soap.

The protective finish helps keep grease and cooking splashes on the surface, where they can be wiped away easily.

Delivery

After ordering, we typically review the details and send your digital preview approval request within one business day.

Production usually takes about 3 weeks, although rush production may be possible when our workshop schedule allows.

Before shipping, we send photos of the completed panel for approval.

Orders ship with tracking and are typically delivered within about one month from the order date.

Many homeowners, designers, and contractors return to Natuross for additional projects because the process is personal, clear, and proven.
