Celtic Horse Head Copper Backsplash — Hand-Hammered Equestrian & Celtic Wall Art
The horse head in Celtic knotwork is one of the oldest and most formally complete compositions in the decorative arts tradition of the British Isles. The horse — the most sacred animal in Celtic culture, the animal of the warrior, the chieftain, and the goddess Epona — framed in the interlaced knotwork that is the defining visual language of Celtic art. The composition is not decoration. It is heraldry.
A hand-hammered copper backsplash and wall art piece of a horse head in profile, framed in Celtic knotwork and flowing leaf flourishes — the noble profile of the horse centered in the composition, the knotwork border interlaced around it, the leaf accents completing the frame — rendered in dimensional copper relief, built up from a flat copper sheet one hammer stroke at a time by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. The horse head and the Celtic frame are the composition: the portrait within the heraldic border, the animal within the cultural tradition that honored it. Available in all 15 finishes. Over 10,000 pieces made.
Epona — the Gaulish and Romano-British goddess of horses, fertility, and sovereignty — is the only Celtic deity to have been adopted into the official Roman pantheon, worshipped by Roman cavalry units across the empire. The horse in Celtic art appears on the Uffington White Horse (carved into the chalk hillside of Oxfordshire around 1000 BC), on the Gundestrup Cauldron, on Iron Age coins from Britain and Gaul, and in the illuminated manuscripts of the Book of Kells. The Celtic knotwork that frames this panel — the interlaced, unbroken line that has no beginning and no end — is the visual language of eternity in the Celtic tradition. Together, the horse and the knotwork make the most culturally complete and most historically grounded equestrian composition in the Natuross catalog.

Custom Sizes & Layouts
Custom Sizes & Layouts
Every backsplash is made specifically for your kitchen.
Order a single backsplash behind the stove, matching side panels beneath your cabinets, or a complete kitchen backsplash designed for your full layout.
Outlets, switches, pot fillers, windows, vents, and other cutouts can usually be incorporated into the design.
If your exact size is not listed, simply send us your approximate width × height after ordering. We usually add custom sizes quickly.
For the best fit, measure the finished opening and subtract approximately ⅛ inch from each side. This small installation allowance is normally unnoticeable and helps create an easier installation and professional result.
