Bear in Forest Copper Backsplash — Hand-Hammered Wilderness & Cabin Wall Art
The bear in the forest is the most powerful and most atmospherically complete wilderness subject in the backsplash catalog. Not the bear as a symbol, not the bear as a family portrait — the bear in its habitat: the fur texture, the forest trees, the rocky ground, the animal that owns the wilderness it moves through. The backsplash that brings the full weight of the American wilderness into the room.
A hand-hammered copper backsplash and wall art piece of a bear in the forest in raised relief — available in two compositions: a mother bear guiding her cubs through the forest, or a solitary bear roaming the wilderness alone — the fur texture detailed across the body, the forest trees rising behind, the rocky ground below — built up from a flat copper sheet one hammer stroke at a time by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. The bear, the forest, and the copper field are the composition: the animal as the subject, the wilderness as the setting, the warm metal as the ground that holds both. Available in all 15 finishes. Over 10,000 pieces made.
The grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) — the apex predator of the North American wilderness, present in the mountain forests of Alaska, British Columbia, Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho — is the most powerful and most symbolically loaded large mammal in the American wilderness tradition. The bear in the forest has been the defining subject of American wildlife art since John James Audubon’s Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America (1845–1848) and the wildlife paintings of Carl Rungius (1869–1959), the most celebrated wildlife painter of the American West. The bear appears in the wilderness paintings of Albert Bierstadt, in the bronze sculptures of Frederic Remington, and in the carved wooden signs of every cabin, lodge, and wilderness retreat from the Rockies to the Appalachians. In copper relief, the bear’s fur texture, the forest’s depth, and the rocky ground’s weight become the most materially specific and most atmospherically complete wilderness composition in the catalog.
Two Compositions Available
- Mother bear with cubs — the most family-specific and most emotionally resonant wilderness composition — the protective parent, the cubs in the forest
- Solitary bear — the most powerful and most compositionally focused single-subject wilderness composition — the bear alone in its habitat, the full weight of the animal on the wall
Note your preference at checkout — we’ll confirm in the digital preview before production begins.
How This Differs From Our Bear Family Name Sign
- Bear in Forest Copper Backsplash (this panel) — the bear as a wildlife art subject — the animal in its habitat, no personalization required — a pure wilderness art piece
- Bear Family Name Sign — the bear family personalized with your family name and date — a family portrait, not a standalone wildlife art piece

Installation & Care
Installation & Care
Installation — three methods:
- Adhesive — stick directly over existing tile, drywall, wood, or stone using any standard construction adhesive. Most popular method. Most customers install in under an hour.
- Screw mount — for large, heavy, or outdoor panels. Ships with screws and decorative caps included.
- Hanging wire — for wall art, signs, and removable installations.
For multi-piece panels: install the central piece first, borders second.
Care:
Wipe with a soft damp cloth. For grease or cooking splashes, warm water and mild dish soap. No polishing, waxing, or re-sealing — ever. The finish you receive is the finish it keeps.
