Arched Copper Tree Panel — Hand-Hammered Fireplace Over-Mantel & Door Transom Art
The tree is the most universal symbol in human art. Every culture on earth has a sacred tree — the Norse Yggdrasil, the Hindu Ashvattha, the Buddhist Bodhi tree, the Celtic oak, the Mesoamerican ceiba, the Judeo-Christian Tree of Life. The tree in relief above a fireplace or a doorway is not decoration. It is the oldest architectural statement a home can make: this house is rooted. This family grows.
A hand-hammered copper wall panel of a tree in raised relief — the trunk rising from the base, the branches spreading symmetrically across the full width of the panel, the canopy filling the arch — made by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. The tree is the composition: the trunk, the branches, and the canopy are the architecture of the panel, designed to fill an arch the way a tree fills the sky. Available in all 15 finishes. Over 10,000 pieces made.
The tree in relief above a fireplace is one of the oldest architectural traditions in the Western home. The over-mantel — the space above the fireplace surround — has been the most prominent decorative surface in the domestic interior since the Renaissance. In the great houses of England, it was filled with carved stone or painted wood. In the American colonial home, it was the place for the family portrait or the carved eagle. In the Arts and Crafts home, it was the place for the hand-hammered copper panel. This panel continues that tradition — the tree above the fire, the most ancient and most architecturally complete domestic composition.
Two Primary Applications
Arched Over-Mantel Fireplace Panel
The tree panel above the fireplace surround — the arch of the panel echoing the arch of the firebox below, the branches spreading to the full width of the mantel, the canopy filling the space between the mantel shelf and the ceiling. The focal point of the room, permanently.
Typical sizes: 60×30" · 72×36" · 84×42" · 96×48" — or any custom dimension
How to measure: base width × height to the arch apex
Mounting: screw mount recommended for maximum strength
Arched Over-Door Transom Panel
The tree panel above a doorway — the arch of the panel following the arch of the door frame, the branches spreading to the full width of the opening, the canopy visible from both sides of the door. The architectural detail that makes a standard door look like the entrance to something significant.
Typical sizes: 48×24" · 60×30" · 72×36" · 84×42" — or any custom dimension
How to measure: flat base width × maximum height to arch apex
Mounting: screw mount — name or date can be incorporated into the composition if requested
Large arches: made as a continuous multi-piece set with seams at natural branch breaks

Complete the Look
A complete fireplace wall. The tree above the mantel, coordinated copper panels on the surround sides — the fireplace that is the room, not just a feature in it.
A copper entryway. The tree above the front door, a coordinated name plate beside it — the home that announces itself before a word is spoken.
A family tree panel. Your family name at the trunk, the names of family members worked into the branches — above the fireplace, above the dining room table, or in the entry hall.
A cabin or lodge great room wall. The tree at full wall scale — the trunk rising from the floor, the canopy spreading to the ceiling.

Custom Sizes & Layouts
Every backsplash is made specifically for your kitchen.
Order a single backsplash behind the stove, matching side panels beneath your cabinets, or a complete kitchen backsplash designed for your full layout.
Outlets, switches, pot fillers, windows, vents, and other cutouts can usually be incorporated into the design.
If your exact size is not listed, simply send us your approximate width × height after ordering. We usually add custom sizes quickly.
For the best fit, measure the finished opening and subtract approximately ⅛ inch from each side. This small installation allowance is normally unnoticeable and helps create an easier installation and professional result.
