The loggia is the outdoor room that is part of the building — the architectural feature that makes the home as considered on the outside as on the inside. The copper piece that makes the loggia feel as considered as the architecture it belongs to.

Why Copper in the Loggia

Copper belongs in the loggia the way marble belongs in the column. The classical tradition — the great loggias of the Italian Renaissance, the covered galleries of the classical villa, the outdoor rooms of the great Mediterranean houses — copper has always been part of the architectural tradition that produced the loggia. The copper column wrap that makes the structural element feel as considered as a classical column. The copper arch panel that makes the architectural feature feel as considered as the great arches of history. The copper coffered ceiling that makes the loggia ceiling feel as considered as the painted ceilings of the Renaissance. And copper is fully weather-resistant — developing a natural patina with the seasons, the installation aging with the architecture it belongs to.

Feature Wall

A loggia feature wall panel — the back wall of the loggia, the surface that defines the character of the entire covered outdoor gallery. A full loggia feature wall from floor to ceiling, column to column. A side wall panel — the surface that terminates the loggia and makes the journey along it feel complete.

A large-format classical composition — the column, the arch, the architectural fragment. A botanical composition — the vine, the leaf, the flower. A Renaissance composition. The family name in bold copper letterforms. A heraldic composition — the family crest in high relief. A Moorish geometric composition. A simple hammered texture in a warm finish.

Columns

A column wrap — the copper wrapping the columns of the loggia, the structural elements transformed into classical architectural features. A full column wrap from base to capital. A column base panel — a classical base profile in copper. A column capital panel — the acanthus leaf, the volute, the abacus. A column shaft panel — a botanical composition, the vine climbing the shaft.

Arches

An arch soffit panel — the copper on the underside of the arch, the surface seen when looking up at the architectural feature. An arch face panel — the keystone, the voussoir, the architectural motifs of the great arch. An arch keystone panel — a heraldic composition, the family crest at the center of the arch. An arch spandrel panel — the triangular surface between the arch and the rectangular frame.

Ceiling

A loggia ceiling panel — a classical composition, the coffered pattern, the classical ornament. A coffered ceiling panel — the recessed panels, the raised borders, the classical ornament in copper relief. A full loggia ceiling panel from column to column. A ceiling medallion — a classical rosette, the acanthus leaf, centered on the loggia ceiling. A beam panel — the vine along the beam, the botanical climbing the architectural element.

Wall Art & Sculptures

A classical urn panel. An acanthus panel — the defining botanical motif of the classical architectural tradition. A vine panel. A classical column in three-dimensional copper — the base, the shaft, the capital. A peacock — the animal of the classical garden and loggia tradition, the symbol of beauty and the covered outdoor room. Made to any size, prepared for outdoor installation.

Loggia Signs

The house name. The loggia name. The founding year. The family name. A classical quote. A loggia philosophy. A welcome sign. A do not disturb sign. See all sign types on the Copper Signs & Plaques page.

"The [Family Name] Loggia" · "Est. [Year]" · "The loggia is the most civilized room in the home." · "Architecture is frozen music." · "Enter and Be at Peace." · "The Gallery is in Use" · "Per aspera ad astra."

Finish Note

Natural Copper, Antique Gold, and Brown Copper suit the architectural tradition of the covered outdoor gallery. Antique Gold is the most classically specific finish — referencing the gilded architectural details of the great Renaissance loggias. Silver–Gold works well in loggias with a contemporary interpretation of the classical tradition.

"The coffered ceiling panel and the column wraps changed the entire loggia. Every time I walk through the covered gallery, the copper makes the architectural space feel as considered as the great loggias of history — the warm metal on the classical elements, the hammered surface alive in the afternoon light. The loggia feels like it has always had copper on its columns and ceiling — like the copper was always part of the architecture." — Natuross customer
