Fir Tree Copper Panel — Hand-Hammered Alpine & Christmas Botanical Wall Art

Only true firs hold their cones upright — like candles on a branch. Every other conifer’s cones hang down. The fir stands alone. It is the most symmetrical, the most fragrant, and the most architecturally perfect tree in the mountain forest.

A copper wall panel of the Fir Tree — the flat soft needles, the perfect symmetrical conical form, the distinctive upright cones of the most classically beautiful and most immediately recognizable of the true conifers — hand-hammered in real copper sheet by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. The perfect symmetrical form and the upright cones are the composition: those flat soft needles rendered in dimensional metalwork, the distinctive upright cones and perfect conical form built up in fine relief, the quiet authority of a tree that has been standing in mountain forests in exactly this form for 50 million years. In Green Copper or Natural Copper, the deep forest-green tones echo the real tree. Every needle, every cone, every detail a separate hammer stroke, thousands of them. Over 10,000 pieces made.

The true firs (Abies spp.) comprise approximately 50 species distributed across the mountain forests of the Northern Hemisphere — from the Balsam Fir of the Canadian boreal forest to the Noble Fir of the Pacific Northwest to the Silver Fir of the European Alps. They are distinguished from all other conifers by their upright cones — which disintegrate on the tree rather than falling whole. The Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea) produces the most aromatic resin of any North American tree — the source of Canada balsam, used for centuries in optical instruments and microscopy. The Noble Fir (Abies procera) produces the most architecturally perfect Christmas tree in the world — its strong, widely spaced branches hold ornaments at perfect angles. The Silver Fir (Abies alba) was the original Christmas tree of Central European tradition — the tree that inspired the tradition before the Norway Spruce became dominant. The most symmetrical, most fragrant, and most architecturally perfect genus of trees in the mountain forest.

Which Fir Is Your Fir?

The fir panel shown is our classic design. But every fir buyer has their fir — and we can render any species in copper relief with the same hand-hammered precision.

Fraser Fir — the most popular Christmas tree in America. Grows only above 4,500 feet in the Southern Appalachians. Has graced the White House since 1966. The most needle-retaining and most presidentially honored fir in North America.
Balsam Fir — the most aromatic fir in North America. The source of Canada balsam. The defining scent of the Canadian boreal forest and the classic Christmas wreath.
Noble Fir — the most architecturally perfect Christmas tree in the world. Strong, widely spaced branches. The fir of the Pacific Northwest high country.
Silver Fir — the original Christmas tree of Central Europe. The fir of the Alps, the Black Forest, and the Vosges. The tree that started the tradition.
White Fir — the fir of the American West — Colorado, Utah, Arizona. Blue-green needles, drought-tolerant, the most widely planted fir in western landscaping.
Korean Fir — the most ornamentally spectacular fir. Produces purple-blue upright cones even on young trees. The fir of the garden and the collector.

A specific species — Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir, Noble Fir, Silver Fir, White Fir, Korean Fir — a fir in a mountain forest scene with snow, a fir decorated as a Christmas tree with ornaments and lights, a fir grove composition, a fir branch botanical study with upright cones and needles — or a completely different mountain conifer: spruce, pine, cedar, or anything that matters to you. Or a personalized panel: your family name or farm name designed as a full copper composition, with the Fir Tree as the central subject, in the same finish. Not a sign — a piece of art that carries your name. Same process, completely custom. Just reach out.

Complete the Look

A copper panel above your fireplace. The Fir Tree, larger, above the mantel in Green Copper. The most symmetrical and most architecturally perfect focal point in the conifer range — the tree that holds its cones upright like candles, at full scale in copper, above the fire.

Your farm or family name in copper. Not a sign — a designed panel. Your name hand-hammered in relief, with the Fir Tree as the central subject, in the same finish as the main panel. It goes at the farm entrance or above the front door. Every person who arrives sees it first.

A Christmas tree decorated composition. The Fir Tree as a decorated Christmas tree — ornaments, lights, star on top — in Green Copper with Silver or Gold/Brass details. The most festive and most holiday-specific panel in the conifer range. Above the main wall of the living room or the holiday room.

A living room or dining room panel. A coordinated mountain forest scene — a spruce, a pine, a hemlock — in the same finish as the Fir Tree. The home with a consistent visual language of the alpine forest and the mountain conifer tradition.

If you’re thinking about more than one piece: reach out before you order. We’ll design everything together and give you project pricing for the full set.

  • Screw mount — for large, heavy, or outdoor panels. Ships with screws and decorative caps included.
  • Hanging wire — for wall art, signs, and removable installations.

For multi-piece panels: install the central piece first, borders second.
