Eastern White Pine Tree Copper Panel — Hand-Hammered Maine & New England Wall Art

The British Crown marked the tallest Eastern White Pines with a broad arrow — the King’s Mark — reserving them for Royal Navy masts. Colonists who cut a King’s Pine faced heavy fines. The Pine Tree Riot of 1772 was one of the first acts of colonial rebellion against the Crown. The tree that built the Royal Navy also helped start the American Revolution.

A copper wall panel of the Eastern White Pine — the soft blue-green needles in bundles of five, the long slender cones, the towering straight form of the most historically significant and most immediately recognizable conifer of the Eastern forest — hand-hammered in real copper sheet by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. The soft five-needle bundles and the long slender cones are the composition: those distinctive soft blue-green needles rendered in dimensional metalwork, the long slender cones and towering straight form built up in fine relief, the quiet authority of a tree that was so valuable it started a revolution and so sacred it became the symbol of peace. In Green Copper or Natural Copper, the deep blue-green tones echo the real needles. Every needle, every cone, every detail a separate hammer stroke, thousands of them. Over 10,000 pieces made.

The Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus) is the tallest tree in the Eastern United States — old-growth specimens reached 200 feet or more, though most old-growth groves were logged in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is the state tree of both Maine and Michigan. The White Pine is the Tree of Peace of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy — the Great Law of Peace was symbolized by a White Pine, with its roots extending in four directions and an eagle perched at the top. The Pine Tree Flag — featuring a White Pine — was one of the first flags of the American Revolution, flown by New England colonial forces. The Eastern White Pine is the most important timber tree in the history of North America — its straight-grained, easily worked wood built the houses, ships, and furniture of colonial America. The most historically significant, most politically resonant, and most architecturally essential conifer in the Eastern United States.

A King’s Pine with the broad arrow mark of the British Crown, a Pine Tree Flag composition — the first flag of the American Revolution — a Haudenosaunee Tree of Peace composition with the eagle at the top and the roots extending in four directions, an Eastern White Pine in an old-growth forest scene with the towering trunks and cathedral light, an Eastern White Pine branch botanical study with five-needle bundles and long slender cones — or a completely different New England or Eastern forest conifer: hemlock, spruce, balsam fir, or anything that matters to you. Or a personalized panel: your family name or farm name designed as a full copper composition, with the Eastern White Pine as the central subject, in the same finish. Complete the Look

A copper panel above your fireplace. The Eastern White Pine, larger, towering trunk spanning above the mantel in Green Copper. The most historically significant and most politically resonant focal point in the Eastern conifer range — the tree that started a revolution and became the symbol of peace, at full scale in copper, above the fire.

A Haudenosaunee Tree of Peace composition. The White Pine as the Tree of Peace of the Iroquois Confederacy — roots extending in four directions, eagle at the top, the Great Law of Peace — in Green Copper. The most politically resonant and most symbolically complete Native American panel in the catalog. Above the main wall of the home or study that carries that heritage or that reverence.

A Pine Tree Flag composition. The first flag of the American Revolution — the White Pine on the green field — in Green Copper. The most historically specific and most patriotically resonant New England panel in the catalog. Above the main wall of the home that carries that history.

Your family or farm name in copper. Not a sign — a designed panel. Your name hand-hammered in relief, with the Eastern White Pine as the central subject, in the same finish as the main panel. It goes at the farm entrance or above the front door. Every person who arrives sees it first.

If you're thinking about more than one piece: reach out before you order. We'll design everything together and give you project pricing for the full set.

  • Adhesive — stick directly over existing tile, drywall, wood, or stone using any standard construction adhesive. Most popular method. Most customers install in under an hour.
  • Screw mount — for large, heavy, or outdoor panels. Ships with screws and decorative caps included.
  • Hanging wire — for wall art, signs, and removable installations.

For multi-piece panels: install the central piece first, borders second.

Care:

Wipe with a soft damp cloth. For grease or cooking splashes, warm water and mild dish soap. No polishing, waxing, or re-sealing — ever. The finish you receive is the finish it keeps.
