Colorado Blue Spruce Tree Copper Panel — Hand-Hammered Rocky Mountain Wall Art

The Colorado Blue Spruce is the state tree of Colorado and Utah. Its needles are coated in a waxy bloom that reflects light — turning them silver-blue. In full sun, a mature Blue Spruce looks like it was made of metal. It is the most dramatically colored conifer in North America.

A copper wall panel of the Colorado Blue Spruce — the stiff, sharp, silver-blue needles, the perfect symmetrical conical form of the most dramatically colored and most immediately recognizable of all the spruces — hand-hammered in real copper sheet by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. The stiff silver-blue needles and the perfect symmetrical conical form are the composition: those distinctive silver-blue needles rendered in dimensional metalwork, the perfect conical form and stiff sharp needles built up in fine relief, the quiet authority of a tree that grows at 11,000 feet in the Rocky Mountains and turns silver-blue to survive — and then becomes the most planted ornamental conifer in North America because of it. In Blue Copper or Silver, the distinctive silver-blue tones echo the real needles. Every needle, every cone, every detail a separate hammer stroke, thousands of them. Over 10,000 pieces made.

The Colorado Blue Spruce (Picea pungens) is native to the Rocky Mountains — from Wyoming to New Mexico — where it grows along mountain streams at elevations of 6,000 to 11,000 feet. It is the state tree of both Colorado and Utah. The distinctive silver-blue color of the needles is caused by a waxy coating — epicuticular wax — that reflects light and reduces water loss in the dry mountain air. The most intensely blue cultivars — including ‘Hoopsii’, ‘Fat Albert’, and ‘Iseli Fastigiate’ — are among the most widely planted ornamental conifers in North America. The Colorado Blue Spruce is one of the most popular Christmas trees in the United States — its perfect conical form and striking blue color make it the most visually dramatic Christmas tree available. It is extremely cold-hardy — tolerating temperatures down to -40°F — making it one of the most widely planted conifers in the northern United States and Canada. The most chromatically dramatic, most symmetrically perfect, and most cold-hardy ornamental spruce in North America.

Contact us with your wall dimensions for an exact quote — we’ll design the full composition and send a digital preview before any commitment.

④ Custom or personalized design — reach out
A ‘Hoopsii’ Blue Spruce — the most intensely silver-blue cultivar — in full conical form, a ‘Fat Albert’ Blue Spruce with its compact, perfectly symmetrical form, a Colorado Blue Spruce in a Rocky Mountain stream scene with the mountain peaks behind, a Blue Spruce decorated as a Christmas tree with ornaments and lights in Blue Copper, a Blue Spruce grove in winter with snow on the silver-blue branches — or a completely different Rocky Mountain or Western conifer: Engelmann spruce, subalpine fir, or anything that matters to you. Or a personalized panel: your family name or ranch name designed as a full copper composition, with the Blue Spruce as the central subject, in the same finish. Not a sign — a piece of art that carries your name. Same process, completely custom. Just reach out.

Complete the Look

A copper panel above your fireplace. The Colorado Blue Spruce, larger, conical form spanning above the mantel in Blue Copper. The most chromatically dramatic and most symmetrically perfect focal point in the Rocky Mountain conifer range — the tree that grows at 11,000 feet and turns silver-blue to survive, at full scale in copper, above the fire.

Your family or ranch name in copper. Not a sign — a designed panel. Your name hand-hammered in relief, with the Blue Spruce as the central subject, in the same finish as the main panel. It goes at the ranch entrance or above the front door. Every person who arrives sees it first.

A Rocky Mountain forest collection. The Colorado Blue Spruce above the stove, an Engelmann spruce on the side wall, a subalpine fir on the window wall — all in Blue Copper and Green Copper, designed together as one coordinated Rocky Mountain forest composition. The kitchen that brings the most dramatic high-altitude forest in North America into the heart of the home.

A living room or dining room panel. A coordinated Rocky Mountain scene — an Engelmann spruce, a subalpine fir, a quaking aspen — in the same finish as the Blue Spruce. The home with a consistent visual language of the Rocky Mountain forest and the Western conifer tradition.

If you’re thinking about more than one piece: reach out before you order. We’ll design everything together and give you project pricing for the full set.

  • Adhesive — stick directly over existing tile, drywall, wood, or stone using any standard construction adhesive. Most popular method. Most customers install in under an hour.
  • Screw mount — for large, heavy, or outdoor panels. Ships with screws and decorative caps included.
  • Hanging wire — for wall art, signs, and removable installations.

For multi-piece panels: install the central piece first, borders second.

Care:

Wipe with a soft damp cloth. For grease or cooking splashes, warm water and mild dish soap. No polishing, waxing, or re-sealing — ever. The finish you receive is the finish it keeps.
