Bison Copper Panel — Hand-Hammered Western & Wildlife Wall Art

There were 60 million bison on the Great Plains. By 1889, there were 541. The bison is the greatest conservation comeback story in American history.

A copper wall panel of the bison — the massive humped shoulders, the shaggy coat, the powerful horns of the most iconic and most historically resonant large mammal in American history — hand-hammered in real copper sheet by our family using traditional chasing and repoussé techniques passed through generations. The massive shoulders and the shaggy coat are the composition: that enormous hump rendered in dimensional metalwork, the shaggy coat and powerful horns built up in fine relief, the settled authority of an animal that has been the center of the Great Plains world for ten thousand years. In Natural Copper or Brown Copper, the warm dark-brown tones echo the real animal. Every strand of the shaggy coat, every detail a separate hammer stroke, thousands of them. Over 10,000 pieces made.

The American Bison (Bison bison) is the largest land animal in North America — a bull can weigh 2,000 pounds and run 35 mph. For 10,000 years, the bison sustained the Plains peoples — the Lakota, Comanche, Cheyenne, Blackfoot, and dozens of other nations — providing food, clothing, shelter, tools, and spiritual life from a single animal. Between 1870 and 1889, commercial hunters reduced the population from 60 million to 541. Theodore Roosevelt and a small group of conservationists saved the species from extinction. In 2016, the bison was designated the National Mammal of the United States — the first animal to receive that designation. There are now approximately 500,000 bison in North America. The most powerful, most historically essential, and most triumphantly recovered large mammal in American history.

What Can You Order With This Design?

① Single panel — order directly above
The bison as shown, in your exact size and finish. Enter your width and height above, select your finish, and order directly. Add any note at checkout — we'll send a digital preview before production begins.

② Full kitchen backsplash — the complete look
The bison above the stove, plus coordinated panels for the side walls and window wall — all in the same finish, designed together as one composition. A Great Plains, Western, or prairie-inspired kitchen that commands the room. Send us straight-on photos of your kitchen walls and we'll design the full set, place it into your space photos, and send a digital mockup with a quote. No commitment — just so you can see what's possible.

③ Oversized feature wall — any room, any scale
The bison at full wall scale — hump and horns spanning the full width of the wall, multi-piece installation, the central animal intact, prairie or grassland border pieces designed around it. Living room, dining room, ranch great room, entryway. Any size, any wall. A 60×60" starts at $4,745. A full living room wall at 120×96" runs approximately $18,000–$24,000 depending on design complexity. Contact us with your wall dimensions for an exact quote — we'll design the full composition and send a digital preview before any commitment.

④ Custom or personalized design — reach out
A bison herd in full stampede across the Great Plains, a bison bull in a prairie dust wallow, a bison in a Lakota or Plains Indian-inspired composition, a bison calf, a Wood Bison — the larger northern subspecies of Canada — or a completely different North American large mammal: elk, moose, pronghorn, or anything that matters to you. Or a personalized panel: your ranch name designed as a full copper composition, with the bison as the central subject, in the same finish. Not a sign — a piece of art that carries your name. Same process, completely custom. Just reach out.

Complete the Look

A copper panel above your fireplace. The bison, larger, hump and horns spanning above the mantel. The most powerful and most historically resonant focal point in the North American mammal range — the National Mammal of the United States, at full scale in copper, above the fire.

Your ranch name in copper. Not a sign — a designed panel. Your ranch name hand-hammered in relief, with the bison as the central subject, in the same finish as the main panel. It goes at the ranch entrance or above the front door. Every person who arrives sees it first.

A living room or dining room panel. A coordinated Great Plains wildlife scene — a wolf, an eagle, a pronghorn — in the same finish as the bison. The Western home with a consistent visual language of the American prairie and the open land.

A Native American heritage or conservation-inspired space. The bison in a Plains Indian-inspired composition — the animal that sustained the Lakota, Comanche, Cheyenne, and Blackfoot for ten thousand years — in Natural Copper, above the main wall of the home that carries that tradition or that commitment.

If you're thinking about more than one piece: reach out before you order. We'll design everything together and give you project pricing for the full set.

Perfect For

  • Copper kitchen backsplash & stove backsplash — Natuross is trusted across the US for hand-hammered copper kitchen backsplashes. The bison above the stove brings the Great Plains and the National Mammal of the United States into the heart of the home.
  • Great Plains, Western, or ranch home — the defining large mammal of the American prairie — on the wall of a home that belongs to that land
  • Native American heritage home — Lakota, Comanche, Cheyenne, or Blackfoot — the animal that sustained the Plains peoples for ten thousand years — on the wall of a home that carries that tradition
  • Conservation supporter or wildlife enthusiast — for the person who understands that 60 million became 541 — and that 500,000 is a triumph that required human will to achieve
  • Natural Copper or Brown Copper — most popular finishes for the bison — Natural Copper echoes the warm tawny-brown of the bison in summer coat on the open prairie, Brown Copper echoes the deep dark brown of the bison bull in full winter shag

Installation & Care

Installation — three methods:

  • Adhesive — stick directly over existing tile, drywall, wood, or stone using any standard construction adhesive. Most popular method. Most customers install in under an hour.
  • Screw mount — for large, heavy, or outdoor panels. Ships with screws and decorative caps included.
  • Hanging wire — for wall art, signs, and removable installations.

For multi-piece panels: install the central piece first, borders second.

Care:

Wipe with a soft damp cloth. For grease or cooking splashes, warm water and mild dish soap. No polishing, waxing, or re-sealing — ever. The finish you receive is the finish it keeps.
